Filipino artist Patrick Cabral designs Sarimanok-inspired mugs for Starbucks

Starbucks, the world's largest coffeehouse, has collaborated for the first time with a Filipino artist -- Patrick Cabral, known for his intricate paper sculptures of rare and endangered animals.

Cabral, based in Manila, designed Sarimanok-inspired mugs and other collectibles for Starbucks.

Sarimanok (or papanok in feminine form), is a mythical bird, an important symbol in the art of the Maranao people of Mindanao.

Cabral merged the mythical symbol with his maximalist style in creating the new Starbucks merchandise collection that includes a LOQI tote bag (₱595); Double Wall Mug, 12oz. (₱1,295); Stainless Steel Tumbler, 16oz. (₱1,595), and Acrylic Tumbler, 16oz. (₱895).

A Starbucks X Patrick Cabral Paper Card is also available for an initial activation amount of ₱1,000.

Cabral had earlier collaborated with World Wildlife Fund-Philippines to create paper sculptures of endangered animals.
